Bbuono is back on Lake Garda, in Castrezzone di Muscoline, in a small family-run winery on the Brescia side of Lake Garda between Salò and Lonato.

Luigi and Francesca run the winery and make wine from grapes on a hill, already named ‘La Guarda’ in 1870, combining tradition with the application of modern technologies and innovations in viticulture and oenology, reaching ever higher levels of quality.

Luigi and Francesca are lovable, spontaneous, natural, authentic.

The La Guarda farm is made up of people, who, with a passion for their work and with many sacrifices every day send their business forward, invest and make it grow. Gigi is an excellent winemaker, enhancing the typicality with minimal processing that does not alter the character of the vine.

Passion in caring for vines and people

La Guarda resides on a hill with ancient origins. This hill dates back to the Quaternary period in the beautiful scenery of the Valtènesi, a DOC wine production area.

The goal of this small company is to put people and customers at the center of attention by offering one-of-a-kind products, products that have a story to tell, unique, true, inimitable. Francesca and Luigi want to create something that holds meaning, such as caring for and protecting the land, they have the awareness of their own limitations but the confidence that all together we can go far.

Last year, after a hailstorm, Francesca wrote these words that make one understand the sacrifice, the passion the discouragement replaced by the desire to continue in their project and keep dreaming of more:

Disappointment
So much care, so much love, so much time devoted to taking care of every single bunch
And then a hailstorm, unfavorable weather conditions, heat strokes, a year’s work lost in a matter of minutes…
The reality is that not every vintage is exceptional…
The reality is that you will not find some vintages of our wines with us because it is not possible to produce them…
The reality is that sometimes good will is not enough…
This year’s harvest will be hard, difficult, we will have to select grapes bunch by bunch…
But we are not giving up! And as always we will do our best!”

Walking through their beautiful vineyards, we can assure you that we at bbuono have touched the commitment and dedication of Francesca and Luigi.

Luigi and Francesca are always cheerful and positive, committed to spreading the culture of good drinking.

To choose to have a picnic with an enchanting view at their farm is to decide to give yourself moments of happiness for the eyes, palate, body and soul.

As unique an experience as the nighttime grape harvest, another initiative they offer at their farmhouse, is to experience the thrill of harvesting grapes by moonlight.

Interview

Bbuono:
How did you meet and what do you want to convey?
La Guarda Farm:
Gigi and I met during the grape harvest of 1999, and our love for the magical world of wine brought us even closer together. Through our story, we want to share with you the passion for producing our wines in full respect of nature and its rhythms.
Bbuono:
Where is your winery located?
La Guarda Farm:
Our estate is divided over two hills in the municipalities of Muscoline and Polpenazze del Garda, in the heart of Valtènesi. The landscape is that of the morainic amphitheater on the western side of Lake Garda, and we produce wines under the Riviera del Garda Classico Valtènesi denomination. We have been running the winery since 2017: I am a first-generation winemaker, while Gigi is the fourth. I studied accounting and mainly take care of the tedious bureaucracy, the organization of events, and welcoming guests at the farmhouse and tastings. Gigi studied agriculture and is mainly responsible for the work in the vineyards and the cellar… sometimes I manage to help him too: I’m naturally curious and love learning new things every day. And believe me, in a small winery like ours, there’s always so much to do and learn!
Bbuono:
What are the stages of winemaking?
La Guarda Farm:
It starts with winter pruning of the vines, trained using the Guyot method: it is the longest and most delicate operation, and the entire year depends on it! It usually begins in late November, when the vines shed their leaves, and continues until the end of January (imagine, hand-pruning more than 35,000 vines!). Then comes the tying process, also by hand; then suckering in spring, removing the shoots that are not useful to the plant; then trellising, where the shoots are arranged along the wires; then topping, to cut back the longer shoots; and finally, the harvest—the most important time of the year, the moment everyone waits for, when in just a few weeks the work of an entire year comes together! Joys and struggles, happiness and anxiety, until the moment when all the grape clusters are safe in the cellar, ready to be transformed into fragrant wine.

Why we chose La Guarda Farm as a partner of bbuono.

You can’t help but love Francesca and Luigi, their farm, and the beautiful location where they are. Falling in love with their special events means tasting their products, enjoying their kindness and cheerfulness, their good humor despite difficulties, and their positivity towards life. Their passion and love for nature and the surrounding environment are tangible, and we thank them for accepting to collaborate with bbuono.

A new project to support Francesca and Luigi:
long-distance adoption of a vineyard.

In addition to tasting their delicious wines from today with the long-distance adoption of a vineyard you will help Francesca and Luigi in continuing their activity. A special world full of traditions for which we at bbuono want to commit ourselves to support and enhance.

Over the course of the adoption you will be able to taste Francesca and Luigi’s exclusive products and help a special world-that world of sacrifice and passion, tenacity and resilience.
