Extra jam from organic farm located at 1000 meters in the Brescian valleys.
To make extra jam you need … the seed. That’s right: at the BioDase farm, owners Gianfranco and Anna start their recipe from the seed.
The all-organic care that accompanies the seed to the fruit and the fruit to ripening, harvesting and processing is directly reflected in the finished product translating into a caress for the palate of those who taste it.
Then, if organic rosehips end up in the jar, that’s when you have a super-full of valuable nutrients including vitamin C, of which the plant carries one of the largest percentage contributions.
A 100% organic wellness concentrate
A teaspoon (but yes, let’s make it two or three…) of wellness: this is the extra organic rosehip jam that comes out of BioDase’s expert processing. An ancient recipe, respect for authentic traditions, and attention to quality, wholesomeness and health make this product healthy and suitable even for young children. The properties of rose hips, in fact, even from the herbal point of view do not have contraindications or limitations to administration. It’s just good for you, this plant with antiscorbutic, anti-infective, diuretic and strongly invigorating properties.
A thousand meters, a thousand virtues
In the Brescian mountains, specifically in Vallesabbia, at an altitude of 1,000 meters in the hamlet of Avenone in Pertica Bassa, Gianfranco and his wife Anna started their farm in 2004.
Thus BioDase was born, cradled between the peaks of the Tigaldine Mountains and Corna Blacca. The philosophy of the whole business is precise: through work that does not skimp on physical labor “the ancient way“, orienting production toward ever-current criteria of genuineness, freshness, naturalness. The farm covers 35,000 meters and reserves a third of it for organic crops. The rest of the land is of goats and sheep that graze wildly and, with their grazing, preserve and conserve the soil as proven gardeners but in perfect sustainability. And then the bees, to complete the picture (and the cycle) of a bucolic production that makes nature its business.
Rosehip, the princess
The plants cared for in BioDase’s certified organic and share crops are those of well-being, berries in the lead.
And the rose hip among them is a princess. Also called wild rose or scrub rose, thorn rose or fratta rose, the plant has European origins and belongs to the rosaceae family. It seems to derive its main name no less than from the ancient Greek kynos, meaning ‘dog,’ since that civilization so far back in time already employed its roots against rabies.
It is distinguished by the unmistakable ruby-red berries (cinorroids) that are its true fruits. It is they that are used to make jams after being harvested at the perfect time of full ripening, which occurs between August and September or at any rate–climate changes permitting–at the time when the summer heat dissipates into the mildness of autumn.
Not a whim, but an essential expedient: in fact, the fruit ‘s unparalleled wealth of vitamin C is lost through drying. That would be a crime. At BioDase, however, where every berry is specially observed, the danger is not taken and the crops are processed at the height of their vigor so that the most functional and beneficial nutritional characteristics are preserved intact.
Yes because it is obvious: such an intake of vitamin C (up to 1.7 percent of each fruit) is a real boon to the immune system stimulated to activate protections from colds, flu and various aches and pains.
Flavonoids, tannins, organic acids and carotenoids round out thevirtuous contribution of this plant by aiding microcirculation in combating capillary fragility, and acting as an antioxidant by chasing away free radicals by spoonfuls of sweetness. Beauty and wellness, goodness and health.
How to best enjoy extra rosehip jam
With sugar(also strictly organic) or without for those who are more line-conscious or have specific health needs, BioDase’s signature extra rosehip jam is a healthy product, sure, but also well tasty. So go ahead with your imagination for a healthy fill of guilt-free sweetness thanks to the many virtues of organic rosehips.
Tart for snack or for the table on festive Sundays? You can! Plain to enrich a yogurt, maybe even one made in the high mountains? Great! But extra-organic rosehip jam will also be a mouthwatering daily breakfast simply spread on a slice of toast or in a ‘naked’ sandwich or with a veil of good fresh cream butter produced in the mountain pastures of our valleys.
From morning to night this delicacy finds its purpose. An all-you-can-eat treat is to accompany it with cheeses especially aged cheeses, but if you give in to the temptation to experiment with it on cottage cheese you will have no regrets. A suggestion? Gift a jar of it to your friends and family: social popularity guaranteed for life.

Il corriere ci ha portato il pacco qualche giorno fa con mozzarella (ottima) e robiola (in frigo a stagionare). Ottima e divertente iniziativa, speriamo di poterci spostare presto per fare un giro in malga!
